Spiced Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of milk (whole or your preferred milk type)
  • 2 ounces of high-quality dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • A pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream (for garnish, optional)
  • Ground cinnamon or grated chocolate (for garnish, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the Milk: In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it's hot but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent scalding.
  2. Add Chocolate: Add the chopped dark chocolate to the hot milk. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Cocoa and Spices: Add the unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt to the saucepan. Whisk everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust the sugar if needed.
  4. Simmer and Stir: Reduce the heat to low and let the spiced hot chocolate simmer for a few minutes, stirring continuously. This helps all the flavors meld together.
  5. Serve: Pour the spiced hot chocolate into your favorite mugs. Top with whipped cream if desired and garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or grated chocolate.
  6. Enjoy: Sip your spiced hot chocolate slowly and savor the rich, comforting flavors with a hint of warming spices.
