Spiced Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of milk (whole or your preferred milk type)
- 2 ounces of high-quality dark chocolate, chopped
- 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
- A pinch of salt
- Whipped cream (for garnish, optional)
- Ground cinnamon or grated chocolate (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
- Heat the Milk: In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it's hot but not boiling. Stir occasionally to prevent scalding.
- Add Chocolate: Add the chopped dark chocolate to the hot milk. Stir until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Cocoa and Spices: Add the unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of salt to the saucepan. Whisk everything together until well combined. Taste and adjust the sugar if needed.
- Simmer and Stir: Reduce the heat to low and let the spiced hot chocolate simmer for a few minutes, stirring continuously. This helps all the flavors meld together.
- Serve: Pour the spiced hot chocolate into your favorite mugs. Top with whipped cream if desired and garnish with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or grated chocolate.
