Spiced Breakfast Oatmeal

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups milk of your choice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey, maple syrup, or sweetener of your choice

    Optional toppings: Sliced bananas, apple or your choice fruits, chopped nuts (such as almonds or walnuts), dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, blueberries, or mulberry), a drizzle of nut butter, and a sprinkle of additional cinnamon.

    Instructions:
    1. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rolled oats, milk, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground ginger, and a pinch of salt.
    2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a simmer. Stir frequently to prevent the oats from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
    3. Once the mixture is simmering, reduce the heat to low and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the oats are tender and have absorbed most of the liquid. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
    4. Stir in the honey, maple syrup, or sweetener of your choice. Adjust the sweetness to your preference.
    5. Once the oatmeal reaches your desired consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat.
    6. Serve the spiced oatmeal in bowls, and top with sliced bananas, chopped nuts, dried fruits, a drizzle of nut butter, and an extra sprinkle of cinnamon.
